Steve Matthews is an external affairs executive possessing broad-based experience in public affairs, civic leadership, legislative advocacy, communications, and strategic planning. He currently serves on the Collin County Planning Board and the Leadership North Texas Advisory Board, the Allen Parks Foundation, and the Medical City Plano Community Advisory Council.
A member of the Allen Rotary Club, Steve is a past board chairman of the Chambers of Commerce in Allen, Frisco, and Plano, the Allen Economic Development Corporation, and the Arts of Collin County. Additional board service includes such organizations as the Public Affairs Council, Allen Community Outreach, Dallas County Parks and Open Space, Collin County Industrial Commission, City of Allen Downtown Design Review Board, Frisco Education Foundation, and the Foundation for Allen Schools, among others.
After serving in the administration of Texas Governor Bill Clements, Steve worked for Atmos Energy for three decades, notably as the company’s longtime director of governmental and public affairs across its eight-state footprint. He served Collin College as a member of the Board of Trustees and of the Committee of 100, as a board member of the Collin College Foundation, and as senior vice president of external relations.
He is a graduate of Leadership North Texas, Leadership Allen, Leadership Richardson, and Leadership Plano. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Southern Methodist University in Political Science, a master’s in Leadership and Organizational Development from the University of Texas at Dallas, and graduate certificates from SMU in dispute resolution and UTD in transformational leadership.
