Public Education & Outreach Programs

NTMWD is a statewide leader in education programs for water conservation and environmental protection.

Water My Yard

It is possible to use less water and have a healthy, attractive landscape. NTMWD sponsors the Water My Yard program to inform North Texas residents how much to water their yards. Nearly 50 percent of landscape water is wasted due to overwatering, inefficient watering, or broken and poorly maintained sprinkler systems. A healthy yard needs less water than you think.

Through a partnership with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, subscribers receive customized weekly watering advice specific to their lawn and irrigation system.

  • Provides free outdoor watering recommendations based on location and local weather station data.
  • Sign up and join the over 24,000 subscribers at WaterMyYard.org.

  • Access brochures and videos to help you use and maintain your sprinkler system.
  • Download gardening and lawn care guides for North Texas soils and climate.

Water Efficiency Opportunity Surveys

NTMWD offers free Water Efficiency Opportunity Surveys to select Industrial, Commercial, Institutional and Multifamily (ICIM) properties in its Member Cities.

  • Comprehensive survey reports include recommendations and estimated returns on investment for implementation of recommendations.
  • These surveys can identify millions of gallons of potential water savings.

Stream Trailer

The NTMWD Stream Trailer is a rolling classroom that demonstrates watershed stewardship and conservation practices using a scaled model of a watershed. It is provided free of charge to municipal, educational, or governmental organizations within the District’s service area or Fannin County that have taken the NTMWD Stream Trailer Training Course. The District is also able to deliver demonstrations at outreach events as resources allow.

If you are interested in hosting a stream trailer demonstration for your event, please complete the stream trailer reservation form.

For specific questions about the stream trailer, future training events, or reservations, you may contact streamtrailer@ntmwd.com.
